KEEPING WORKERS AND CLIENTS SAFE DURING CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) IN CLOSE CONTACT SERVICES
Great care has always been taken in minimising risks in cross infection, but in line with current government guidelines there are new protocols that must be adhered to.
There are number of questions I need to ask each of my clients or their carers prior to my visit. Of course, the first question undoubtedly will be if you know you have been in contact with anyone who has signs of Covid-19 or indeed if you have them yourself.
Also, I will need to know if you are shielding anyone within your support bubble etc. These sorts of questions are pretty straightforward and shall be asked prior to each visit, perhaps even the day before. If there is any change from the phone conversation to the appointment in either party (myself/ the client/or someone we live with) we must let one another know.
ENVIRONMENT ISSUES AND WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR THE SESSION
Ventilation is required in all rooms where we are present; if possible windows or even external doors should be open to allow thorough airing of the area.
Prior entering your home and to the appointment I shall sanitise my hands and any equipment used. Please make sure you have tissues for unexpected coughs and sneezes plus a bin to safely dispose of any used tissues or coverings.
Other people within your household would normally be advised to leave the therapist and the client alone, but this is especially the case during these times. Minimising the amount of contact with others is key.
Time spent within your personal space must be kept to a minimum. One therapy per person, no combining of therapies until further notice.
It would be favourable if you (the client) can make sure that door handles and the space I shall work in are sanitised with an approved product for the job.
2 ply tissue coverings will be provided to cover your own CLEAN DRY personal towels, this does not protect your towel from any cross infection of the virus if it were present but, will keep it protected from creams and oils. Don’t forget, my hands WILL be sanitised and I shall be wearing gloves and a face shield, once the session is finished please put the towel straight into the washing.
YOUR THERAPIST & HER EQUIPMENT:
On entering your home, it is required for me to use a face covering AND a plastic face shield for when the touch therapy starts.
All reusable equipment will be sanitised using an alcohol-based solution of at least 70%.
Disposable gloves and a disposable apron shall be worn during the touch therapy
Sanitising spray & wipes (for hands and surfaces) used prior to and post therapy
My equipment shall be carried in a wipe clean bag
Waterproof shoe coverings can be also used
If there are any new symptoms of coronavirus no matter how mild, it is absolutely vital that we inform one another and maintain self isolation in line with the government’s guidelines.
